M2Du5.xx- By Greg Browne - CIS [72250,106]
I ask EVERYONE to AT LEAST read this ONCE before you begin. I have disclaimed
all responsibility for anything this utility may do FOR you or TO you, but I
don't really want to see you mess up your disks, even if you don't care. If
you are determined to jump into the fray blind, at least read what is below.
IT MAY SAVE YOU FROM HEARTBURN, HEARTACHE, AND MUNGED DISKS.
1) Last Plea - Read the documentation. There are some potentially destructive
functions in this utility, and while it will be your own fault if you
delete some unbelievably important directory, I would still feel bad for
you. (Also, I don't need another call at 10 pm asking "How do I recover
from ZAPALL??? I didn't know what it would do, and I tried it."
- Answer: You don't, most likely.)
2) Find and keep handy a copy of FixDisk (the one with the DOOM option).
If you delete something you can't live without, you may be able to
get it back with this. Besides, it is a very handy utility.
3) Don't go clicking idly in odd places without looking at the picture of
where the hidden (unmarked) gadgets are. You might start up something
you don't want.
4) If you are NOT going to read the documentation, at LEAST read below to be
familiar with what can DESTROY things. PLEASE REALIZE THAT MANY OF THESE
work on 'selected' (highlighted) items in BOTH windows.
THESE TWO BEGIN IMMEDIATELY WITHOUT REQUESTING CONFIRMATION:
COPY - When the PROTECT gadget shows, it won't copy over an existing
file, but when ERASE shows, it doesn't care if it is merrily
overwriting an invaluable file. Will copy both directions
(Source -> Destination and vice versa) in the same pass.
MOVE - Renames if possible, but copies and DELETES the source if not.
This also will work in both directions at once.
THE FOLLOWING GIVE YOU A CHANCE TO BAIL OUT BY MAKING YOU CLICK THE
GADGET AGAIN TO CONFIRM YOUR DESIRE TO USE THEM, BEFORE THEY GO:
DELETE - Deletes all highlighted files IN BOTH WINDOWS. Be careful,
you can zap files in (D)estination accidentally if you don't
stop and think.
ZAPALL - Deletes everything in sight in the Source window! (i.e. the
entire directory which is showing and all its subdirectories
and files). If you have a directory highlighted, it does
just start there and delete everything in it.
DELDIR - Deletes all highlighted directories in BOTH WINDOWS,
IF they are empty.
FORMAT - Works on floppies shown in the Destination window. Be careful.
INSTAL - Puts a standard boot sector on any floppy disk shown in the
Destination window. How would you like that on your favorite
protected game disk?
DKCOPY - Copies a floppy showing in the Source window over to the
floppy shown in the Destination window. Hope that's what
you want. Does nothing if both are not floppies.
DKWIPE - Writes new root sector and empty bitmap on the floppy shown
in the Destination window. (Actually destroys ALL of track
40, so you probably won't be able to recover from this one
if you goof.)
Now you have been warned about the most destructive commands. Just use
some common sense, and you won't get burned.
